York Minster
Dwarfing the city around it, York Minster is a world famous historic building. Initially built almost 600 years ago, is the largest gothic cathederal in Europe. It's importance reflects the history of the city of York itself. York once the Roman city Eboracum, the first Christian Caesar was proclaimed here, Constantine. Since 1137, the Minster has endured two major fires and 600 hundred years of weathering making this historic structure all the more remarkable.
City Walls
Each year over 1 million visitors recapture the history of York's monumental city walls. The walls originally were to protect the city but are now historic walk ways to explore the city York. The walls are open from 8am until dusk except in icy conditions.
Musuems and Art Galleries
York has many museums that receives over a million every year. These include the Art Gallery that has recently re-opened, Jorvik Centre, National Railway Museum, Castle Museum, Yorkshire Museum and Gardens, York St Mary's (3 minute walk from Minster View), Richard III museum and array of other interesting places to visit...
Shops & Malls
York hosts many traditional soulvenir shops as well as the well known high street stores. A frequent bus service (every 10 minutes) takes you to a shopping complex, Monks Cross, which hosts an array of department stores, eateries and hypermarkets.
Stonegate Teddy Bears
Featured on one of Yorks' oldest streets - Stonegate Teddy Bears, housed in a 15th century building is overflowing with history but also bears! A range of teddy bears are sold from Steiff- the ultimate collectors bear through to the ever popular, Paddington. Also the perfect place to stop for afternoon tea, The Teddy Bear Tea Rooms are located on the floors above. Serving a range of foods from light refreshments to a variety of light meals. A place not to be missed!
